The Blurb: As a blue knight, Rhys Blackwell has the ability to see into the truth of a person's thoughts and feelings, but when he meets the spirited and enigmatic Keira he's surprised to find that she's completely immune to his power. For some reason that he can't explain, Keira is the only person he's met who he can't Read, and he finds himself intrigued and excited by her.
Even more surprising, however, is that Keira is a prisoner of the Knight's Order... and that her last request is for Rhys to take her virginity before she's sentenced to death.
After a heated night with the beautiful prisoner, Rhys is haunted by dreams of her, and for many months he believes her to be dead. When the knight is assigned to escort a mage to the Queen's City, he's shocked to learn that his ward is none other than Keira, who is somehow alive and well—and that the slave mage for whom his passion still stirs is much more than she appears to be. As they set out on their journey, the knight and the mage must fight against bandits, headhunters, greedy noblemen, and the charismatic prince of a foreign kingdom—all while discovering the truth of their combined powers and resisting the temptation of their undeniable lust for one another.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Some may find the beginning of this story a little crass or vulgar. The language alone could turn someone off. But, if you can just get past it, you will not be disappointed. And, ultimately, you'll understand how there is so much more beyond the surface. Of the story and the characters.
This story was a fantastic ride! A knight and a slave mage are brought together under extraordinary circumstances. Rhys, a blue knight of the Order stumbles upon Kiera, as she indulges in her final wish, a luxurious bath, before her execution. The attraction and pull to each other is instant and they find comfort in each others arms knowing that it will be the last time that they will ever see each other.
Months later, when Rhys is ordered to escort a slave mage to the Queen's City, he is dumbfounded and blindsided to learn Keira, who he has been mourning, is that mage.
As a blue knight, he has the gift of "Reading" people but he couldn't read Keira, so at first he feels betrayed and thinks the worst. He assumes Kiera lied about her death sentence and instantly turns cold. Keira is confused but strong and lets him sulk as they begin their trek.
As they move forward on their journey, interesting characters pop in, mysteries about Keira's unique magic are revealed, and their fondness grows as misunderstandings and true feelings are exposed.
These two amazing people live in a time when they are "owned" and their lives and their hearts are not seen as theirs to give. Their love story is intense and intriguing and I could not put the book down once I started.
The writing is wonderful, the characters are well-developed, the action is thrilling and the passion is consuming.
I experienced so many emotions during this journey and am glad I gave it a chance. You should too!
What did you think?
Sounds like a fun and intense read!
This really intrigues me. Paranormal/fantasy isn’t my usual romance genre but I love the sound of this one.
I'm not a massive romance fan and that often puts me off these sorts of books but this one sounds interesting.

Nice review. I don't read enough paranormal books.
